Tom Miller plays at Laxalt PlazaTom Miller performs at Laxalt Plaza (just south of the Carson Nugget) on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Tom Miller is a musician, humorist, storyteller, and general all-around entertainer. He performs on saxes, flute, Native American flute, and various guitars, including guitars he created. Since the late 1970s, Tom has appeared extensively in many nightclubs, restaurants, cruise ships, private and corporate events, and concerts in Nevada, California, and Arizona.

He creates a vibrant atmosphere with his huge music repertoire and engaging personality. For him, music variety is a priority. Tom and his group, Safari, entertained audiences on the M.S. Dixie paddlewheel boat in Lake Tahoe for many years, and he can be heard most weekends at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint in Carson City.

Carson City Open Studios Tour – Aug. 22 & 23, 2020

The 2020 Jazz & Beyond Music and Art Festival this August will include the second annual Carson City Open Studios Tour on Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at multiple studios throughout Carson City.

This admission-free, contemporary cultural event will showcase about two dozen local artists, presenting a wide variety of exceptional visual art and art demonstrations, from painting, sculpture, and 3D art to jewelry, photography, and pottery in about a dozen individual and shared studio spaces.

Local and Regional artists have teamed up to bring this artistically eclectic event to Carson City. Many local artists are sharing their home studio spaces with artists from throughout the region in order to create an amazing collection of art in our fair hamlet. Artists will not only be sharing their works, but sharing their process as well. There will be hands-on art demonstrations at some locations and, where practical, the artists will share their process with visitors.

Art Studios, Locations, Artists, and Musicians include include:

1 — Wa-Pai-Shone Gallery – Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum, 1 Jacobsen Way – Great Basin Native Artists: Vickie Kingman, Suzy Musil, and Irene Taylor.  Music Saturday: Jimmy Vermilion from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Music Sunday: Colin Ross from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

2 — Nevada Artists Assoc. (NAA) Gallery in the Brewery Arts Center* Building – 449 W. King Street – Artist: Jim Markle. Music Saturday: Tom Miller from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Music Sunday: Jimmy Vermilion from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Also, Lady Jill Mueller prints available in the NAA Gallery. (*Event was originally planned for the Brewery Arts Center Artisan Shop, but was moved 8/13/2020.)

3 — Stillwell Art Studio – 5050 Hells Bells Road – Artists: Debbie Anderson, Mike Bond, Robin Clark, LaVonne LaTulip Vasick, Maggie M., and Margaret Stillwell.  Music Saturday: Colin Ross from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Music Sunday: Dale Poune from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

4 — Moongirl Studio – 1705 Vineyard Way – Artists:  Dana Childs d’Lauren, Karen Kreyeski, Sue Pedersen, and Betsy Sadowski.  Music Saturday and Sunday: Jack DiCarlo from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

5 — Candida Webb Studio – 598 S. Richmond Ave. – Artists: Dick Carr, Ned Peterson, and Candida Webb.  Music Saturday: Denise Jenkins from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Music Sunday: Kat MacMartin from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

6 — Carson City Pottery – 225 S. Richmond Ave. – Artists: Clair Bridwell, Robin McGregor, Richard McGregor, and Louise Noel.  Music Saturday: Kat MacMartin from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.  Music Sunday: Evan Stern (cello) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

7 — Art Chalet – 3537 Bigelow Dr. – Artist: Christie Marie E. Russell.

8 — Beltrame Studio – 1512 N. Nevada St. – Artist: Massimiliano (Max) Beltrame.

9 — Bob & Anna’s Studio – 1600 Jefferson Dr. – Artists: Bob Hickox (including work from his late wife).

10 — Kvam Studio – 805 Crain Street – Artist: Jean Kvam.



A list of artists with a map of studio locations will be available at the various studios, as well as a couple of weeks in advance at Nevada Artists Association Gallery and Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority (Visitors Bureau). The Open Studios Tour art event is presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association as part of the 17th annual Jazz & Beyond Music and Art Festival and is supported in part by grants from the Carson City Cultural Commission, the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, and private donations.
