Photograph of Tim Goldsmith Tim Goldsmith - Monday, 8/21/2023 - 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Comma Coffee (inside)

Tim performs his own songs and those of others in a variety of styles - Singing Jazz ballads, Country, Bossa Nova, R'n'B, Rock... Anything from Willie to Frank, with even a little Aretha in the mix. He especially enjoys taking songs that would not seem to be well suited to solo acoustic guitar performance and finding ways to make them shine in that setting. But there is also a place in his heart for the more straightforward classics of acoustic guitar and voice. (People particularly appreciate his renditions of James Taylor's music.) The Mile High Jazz Band (MHJB) is performing the final concert of the 2023 Jazz & Beyond Music Festival. The concert is the band's "Basie Birthday Concert," celebrating the 119th birthday of the great band leader, William "Count" Basie. The first festival, which came to be known as "Jazz and Beyond" was held to celebrate the 100th birthday of the band leader on Aug. 21, 2004.

The MHJB began performing in 1997. We feature music in the Basie-Ellington-Herman tradition, as well as more contemporary styles. Since April 2001, the 17-piece Mile High Jazz Band has performed monthly in local venues, most recently at Gina's Good Life Music and Lounge, in the Carson Nugget. The Mile High Jazz Band Association formed in 2001 as a nonprofit corporation to support the MHJB and its subgroups, promote live jazz performance in northern Nevada, educate the public about jazz, and enrich the cultural life of the community. The Association has also put on the Jazz & Beyond Music Festival each August since 2004. The festival features performances by mostly local and regional musicians in and around downtown Carson City. Most events are free. Photograph of MHJB at
