Squeek Steele plays Music of the 1920s (lecture) – 8/26

August 26 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

- Call NSM for reservations

Squeek SteeleOn Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, pianist, entertainer, and Virginia City legend Squeek Steele will present a Nevada State Museum’s Frances Humphrey Lecture in the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom starting at 6:30 p.m.  The title of the lecture is “Music of the 1920s.”  She will use the piano to present music of the twenties. According to Ms. Steele, “While the program will focus on the upbeat music of the 1920s (Dixieland, Classic Jazz) we will examine the earlier types of music which led to the Jazz explosion of the Flapper Era: ragtime, blues, spirituals, and early jazz (originally spelled jass).”

To reserve a seat go to NSMConnect. In addition to being presented live, the event will also be live-streamed.  To view the presentation on Zoom fill out this form.

You can also access these features at the Nevada State Museum page HERE.

Whether it’s moving a piano, climbing a mountain or visiting (and making) friends in a foreign country, pianist Squeek Steele brings the love of music and her sense of humor with her.  She is no stranger to northern Nevada audiences. A regular performer at the Bucket of Blood Saloon in Virginia City (see calendar on her website at https://goodoldsongs.com) she continues to perform at various venues in the area.

Classically trained, she is noted for her Ragtime piano performances but is at home in all styles and genres of music. She holds a Guinness World Record for more pieces of music played from memory (1990 Guinness book, p. 18). She has released 14 albums available online and at her website. Squeek firmly believes music can save the world. After traveling the planet for the last 8 decades, she shows no sign of slowing down.
