Mile High Jazz Band presents on concert on the eve of Count Basie’s 115th Birthday.
Tues., Aug. 20, 2019, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m at McFadden Plaza.
The Music Festival began in 2004, then called “Basie @ 100,” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of William “Count” Basie (Aug. 21, 1904-April 26, 1984). Today, Mile High Jazz Band, an 18-member big band with vocalist Jakki Ford, celebrates his 115th birthday (a day early). They will play tunes played by the Basie band, arranged by Basie-band arrangers, and other Basie-era and more contemporary tunes to celebrate his life and influence. The program features ballads, high-powered jazz tunes, and dance music. Mile High Jazz Band performs throughout the year for community events, fundraisers, dances, receptions, private parties, and in concert, and collaborates with poets in quarterly Jazz & Poetry performances. Hear them at Living the Good Life or Comma Coffee on the second Tuesday of each month.
