As part of the “Beyond Jazz & Beyond” series, blood drum spirit, one of the bands featured in one of the Jukebox International Film Festival films will perform at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint in the week after Jazz & Beyond.
Band members have lived, played and toured on all seven continents. Percussionist royal hartigan has performed with Kenny Barron and Rudresh Mahanthappa; bassist Wes Brown has toured with Earl ‘Fatha’ Hines and Ed Blackwell; and saxophonist David Bindman has performed with Wadada Leo Smith and Anthony Braxton.
They adapt elements of world cultures into their music and embed them within a uniquely American Jazz compositional and improvisational sound and style. blood drum spirit was featured in Sara Pettinella’s documentary film, We Are One, which is premiering at the Jukebox International Film Festival in Carson City in August.
Jukebox International Film Festival (JIFF) is the only event of its kind to feature films that have music as a central driving theme. JIFF is screening 30 titles, including 7 World Premieres and 4 U.S. Premieres. They represent 29 filmmakers from countries around the world, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, the Republic of Estonia, France, Greece, Ireland, the Republic of Korea, the U.K., the U.S, and Venezuela. More than half the filmmakers will attend the film festival.
